Crestview’s Mountain Fire costs may be mostly reimbursed.

The Mountain Fire raced up the barranca beside Well #6 and put the SCE transformer and the well-to-waste pipe out of action and destroyed some materials stored there.  The slope was denuded by the fire and made vulnerable to slides in a heavy rain and will require immediate and permanent ground cover at a cost in the range of $20,000.  Some of the ~$54,000 physical damage may be covered by insurance. Approximately $100,000 of extra expenses, including labor to shut off customer service lines and test for contamination, may be covered by FEMA and a local government fund; an application is pending.

Both wells are presently idle because the demand is being met by purchasing water from Calleguas.  These purchases are not extra expenses because the plan was to buy this water in the spring anyway.

A rented generator is positioned beside the booster pump at Reservoir 2 to guard against another long Public Safety Power Shutoff. Crestview Watch has no information on the monthly cost.

This information was presented to the Board on December 17.
