Crestview serving all customers with water from Calleguas.

Edison restored Crestview’s power about 4PM Saturday.  By 6PM Crestview had turned off the portable diesel generator and was using Edison power for the booster pump at Reservoir 2 that moves water from Reservoir 2 up to Reservoir 3.  This is the same configuration that has for many years used Calleguas water to meet customer demands in every part of the Crestview system.  A standby generator for the booster pump will be in place for at least 45 days in case of another prolonged power outage.

Well #4 has been switched back to Edison power, but has not been turned on because chlorinated well water needs to be kept separate from chloraminated Calleguas water.  Well #6 will not be used until the transformer at that location has been inspected and found undamaged after exposure to the fire.

It appears the Crestview Board will consider whether to invest in a permanent natural-gas-powered emergency generator for the booster pump at Reservoir 2.  With that relatively small capital investment, Crestview could always switch to Calleguas water in the event of a natural disaster shutting down either or both of our wells.  Permanent generators at both wells would be less critical, although possibly appropriate because buying Calleguas water is much more expensive than pumping our own wells.

Reminder: the Unsafe Water Notice is still in effect, pending testing for benzene and other volatile organic chemicals.  Don’t drink, cook, or boil the water, and do limit certain other uses, until advised it is safe.  Crestview Watch does not know if the testing protocol or results may be different depending on whether the water source is Calleguas or our wells.
